Two finished, one ruined

Here are two that I was able to finish before my move. Maybe I would have done a better job if I had more time, but I may also have never started them without a deadline.

Here is another that I ruined because I ran out of time and had no plan. :(
Sometimes it doesn't work to just start painting without sketching and thinking through everything. Its too bad because this is a nice large canvas.

Yesterday I worked on these, and made a lot of progress. Still not happy with the smoky one, but its better than it was before.

Two almost finished pieces, and a look at how my studio apartment is literally being used as a studio.  :)

Command Z

Here are the beginnings of the paintings from the past couple of weeks. Its hard to come home after a day of graphic and web design and paint all night. You are still using your creative brain, but with such a different medium that its hard to adapt. I find myself wanting to fill the background with color in one click, or use Command Z when I make a mistake! So getting back to basics is probably a good exercise.

Painting Marathon!

With less than a month before I move out of Seattle, I've been trying to paint a lot and use all the canvasses I have here. I've had things sketched out, but untouched for awhile, but with this pressure of a deadline I've been a little more productive.

Almost done!

I still have a bit to finish on the last panel with her upper body/face. But here is my progress!

Beginning of the third panel

I started the third panel but it still needs a lot of work. You can get an idea of what I'm going for now though, with all three panels together. Can't wait to finish it! :)

Working on panel 2 of 3

Here is the second panel in this 3 canvas piece. I found myself reverting back to my smooth style of painting and it was hard to make sure the style matched the first panel.

Experimenting with a new style

Today I started the first of a set of three panels I'm planning to do. I'm trying a different style that shows more brush strokes and is rendered a little looser. I usually paint very smooth and blend a lot, but I always love paintings that have this sketchy quality.
I still have to get proportions right and work on the top leg, but I like how fast I can work in this style! This is only after about 2.5 hours of work.

Finished Piece

Here is the latest finished piece. I tried to keep it minimal and clean but add some texture and shapes to the background.

Return to Painting!

I started painting again after my return to Seattle! I bought 10 new blank canvasses and plan to do a collection of nudes. Here's some progress...

gallery showing!

Both of these paintings were selected to be in "The Loft", a gallery that takes part in Seattle's Art Walk!

Some progress in the painting, in my new "studio."

Almost done! I think it goes well with others I have done with similar themes and styles, inspired by other cultures. You can see them below....

New Painting Progress

I was inspired to paint this woman after a bus trip from Brussels to London this summer where I sat near a family who all had these beautiful features.

Obama Illustration

Here is a recent illustration I did of President Obama. Portraiture has always been one of my favorites, and here I hand drew and digitally colored this illustration, which is kind of a new technique for me. I like the effect of leaving the pencil lines, and being able to change out colors without effecting the actual drawing.

The Beginning

During art school in NYC, I became distracted with work and all the excitement that the city had to offer, and art became less and less a part of my life. Now that I am in the position to regain focus on art, I decided to start this blog to show progress in my projects and explorations. Oil paint has always been a favorite medium of mine, and I hope to develop a collection of paintings to potentially show and/or sell. As an illustration major, that has been another subject I am interested in and hope to develop as well. In addition to those, I am working on my graphic design portfolio and will be experimenting with text, layout, and design as well. Hopefully during this time I will discover what I enjoy and excel at most, and turn whatever that may be into a career!
